Help—Frequently asked questions

Are there any age restrictions?

Climbers must be 16 or older by October 21, 2015.

Is there a fundraising requirement?

Yes, there is a $150 fundraising minimum for all participants. Participants must have personally raised, contributed or pledged at least $150 in order to climb.

We encourage all participants to raise or contribute $150 via the Story by Story event website no later than the event day, October 21. Climbers can also pledge to raise or contribute $150 after the event, by November 6.

Registrants can bring payment with them to the event; please bring payment to the Help Desk before or after checking in at the general Check-in Area. Cash, checks and credit cards will be accepted.

As part of the registration process for all climbers, your credit card information will be securely captured and saved. Your credit card will be charged any remaining balance, if you have not raised or personally contributed $150 by November 6. You will be notified before November 6 about any remaining balance which is owed, before your credit card is charged.

Climbers who cancel their registration by the event day, October 21, will not be charged for the $150 requirement. Cancellation must be in writing, by emailing This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.. The $50 registration fee, however, is not refundable.

The $150 fundraising minimum also applies to “virtual climbers.” If you do not plan to attend the event, please notify This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. by the event day, October 21, to avoid the $150 charge.

When does registration end?

Can someone register to climb at the event site, on the day of the event?

We request that all climbers register online, in advance of the event. Online registration will end on October 14, 5:00 pm. All climbers must be at least 16-years-old.

What should I do if my company intends to underwrite my $150 fundraising requirement?

For climbers who are being financially sponsored by their firms, please make arrangements with your employer to be reimbursed for the $150 fundraising requirement or have your employer contact Her Justice (This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.) to pay Her Justice directly. Your employer can cover the $150 requirement by check or credit card. Payment details must be emailed to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. no later than Wednesday, October 14.

When I register, can I choose to climb less than the full 43 floors of the building?

Yes, there is a registration choice of 22 floors. You can also choose to be a "virtual climber" (please see next question). You can officially change your route anytime before Wednesday, October 14, 5:00 pm. Once you confirm your route, we only ask that you do the best you can—you are not required to complete the climb and can end your climb at any time.

What is a virtual climber?

A virtual climber is someone who does not plan to climb stairs, but wishes to fundraise for Her Justice. If you will not be in New York City on October 21 or have health conditions which make stair climbing inadvisable—or for whatever reason—you may want to consider registering as a virtual climber. In all other respects, virtual climbers are just like "real" climbers in their fundraising practices: they can create a personal fundraising page on the event web site and they can email their contacts about their fundraising goal, etc. Virtual climbers are welcome to attend the event.

Virtual climbers are subject to the same $150 fundraising minimum as actual climbers. If you do not plan to attend the event, please notify This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. by event day, October 21, to avoid the $150 fundraising charge.

What is the registration option for becoming an extreme climber?

To raise awareness of the burdens carried by Her Justice clients and to make their climb more challenging, participants can choose to wear a 10 lb. weighted fitness belt during their 43-flight climb (climbers wearing belts will not be permitted to climb the building twice). The equipment will be provided to climbers (free of charge) at the event, to be returned to Her Justice after the climb.

We ask that interested climbers check off this option on the registration form as soon as possible as there are only 85 Extreme Climber slots available.

What is a "Personal Web Page Link" and why should I create this when I register?

When you register, you have the option to create an easy-to-remember, short version of your personal fundraising webpage address. This is very convenient for giving the link to others so they can donate to your page. Otherwise, your webpage address will be a longer, more cumbersome address. We encourage all climbers to create a "Personal Webpage Link," but your webpage will still work fine without one.

What if I need to cancel my registration?

Please email This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it., and a staff person can delete your registration. However, your $50 registration fee is not refundable. In addition, your personal fundraising page may remain searchable on the Story by Story site—we suggest that you add language to your page to indicate that you are no longer participating in the climb. Climbers who cancel their registration by the event day, October 21, will not be charged for the $150 fundraising requirement. Cancellation must be in writing by emailing This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..

If you don't remember your login and password from last year, simply click on the "Forgot Username and/or Password" link in the login section or call or email This email address is being protected from spambots. Can my friends and family (who are NOT registered to participate) come to the finish line party?

Virtual climbers are subject to the same fundraising minimum ($150) as actual climbers. Registration will end on October 14, 5:00 pm.
